Puerto Morelos

Protected by a large Municipal Ecological Reserve, Puerto Morelos is quietly removed from the hustle and bustle of the tourist corridor connecting Cancún and Tulum.

In a time-honored tradition, the fishing fleet takes to the sea each morning and returns each evening with its catch.

Families gather in the square for festivals and celebrations. Kids play along the dock and up and down the side streets.

A few upscale restaurants now blend among the shops of this quaint fishing village that time seems to have forgotten.

In fact, Jimmy Buffet spent some time here, kicking back and relaxing to the rhythms of the village and the sea. Puerto Morelos so inspired him that he wrote his famous song about Margaritaville.
